As the world prepares to mar the international day of peace, Non-governmental organizations in partnership with other peace stakeholders in the district have started preparations with a peace walk around the town.
The peace walk that was flagged off by the Resident District Commissioner Lillian Ruteraho involved students, pupils, community residents and leaders who walked 4.5 kilometers while cleaning the town.
Lillian Ruteraho asked all the participants to embrace environmental protection though preservation of forests and swamp for a better Bunyoro.
Eva Murora who represented the vice chancellor African Rural University said that often people have not been observing peace versus environmental protection and thus this walk was to remind them of the importance of peace in environmental conservation.
The organizers of the function said that it was worth having a peace walk as it will help to remind the nation of the importance of peace and also know what the community needs to preserve the environment.
Participants applauded the organizers and said that they observed many things during the walk like poor attitude towards peace building and environmental related practices where they litter everywhere.
The theme for the peace walk was Climate Actions for Peace and the whole world will mark the international day of peace on 20/09/2019 and for Bunyoro it will be marked in Kikuube District.
